Just A Few Cool New Things, Pita Pit, Pier Park North & Gun Range
Not too long ago Vivian had a hankerin’ for a falafel, so we decided to give Pita Pit in Pier Park a try. The food was good and Vivian enjoyed her falafel. But what was just as good was the conversation we got to have with the young man who owns the place. I was watching him watch his employees and customers so I asked him if he was the owner. He said he was. We introduced ourselves and he told us his name was Eric Woliver. Business seemed to be in between rushes so we struck up a conversation him. He told us about his recent loss of his family in an airplane crash, his new business, the food and his plans for the future. It was so refreshing to talk to a young person who seemed to be so friendly, honest and optimistic about his future given his recent losses.
I was curious, so I Googled his name when we got home. His story was so compelling I thought it important to share it with you. You can read more about it here. If you want to try some good food and get it from a good person give Pita Pit in Pier Park a try!
Pier Park North is really coming along and Dick’s Sporting Goods has opened. We gave the place a visit but really didn’t find anything that interested us. We think we will continue do our best to support our local sportinggoods/outdoor stores like Sunjammers, Half-Hitch and Howell Tackle and Anglers Tackle. I admit I do mail order from Bass Pro and Cabelas now and again.
Pier Park North stores that are suppose to soon be tenants include Bed Bath & Beyond, Michael’s, Kirkland’s, Pier 1 Imports, Ross, Shoe Carnival, Rooms to Go and PetSmart. Out parcel plans include Men’s Warehouse, Mattress Firm, Joe’s Crab Shack, Texas Roadhouse, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, Verizon Wireless, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Aspen Dental.
It only took about a year of negotiations and on March 19, 2014 Bay County broke ground for a new public gun range. The location will be 11411 Landfill Road which is near the Steelfield Landfill, just off Hwy 79 north of Panama City Beach. They expect the first phase of the two phase construction to take about four months. The first phase will be a two rifle ranges, a 50 foot pistol range an an educational classroom to be used to teach gun safety. The second phase is expected to include a fifteen position sporting clays course, archery, trap and skeet fields. To date no usage fees have been established. Read the complete story here.
This just a few of the cool new things that this area has to offer. They are many more in the works. 🙂
