Saltwater fisherman try this! Fishing lures and hooks last longer.
This fishing tip is Courtesy of Bill Allen an excellent flats fisherman and resident here at Hibiscus By The Bay.
Early one morning, I got this tip from Bill Allen, while watching him host the local outdoors television show called Panhandle Outdoors. I think he was guest hosting for the regular host Winston Chester. Anyways the tip is very simple and very effective. He suggested that you bring a container with freshwater in it with you fishing to put you lures in after you have used them. The idea here is to get them in freshwater when you are done with them while you are out fishing.
The photo shows the container I use to do this. When I am out fishing and I change lures I just take the one I am done with and plunk it it the container that has freshwater in it. I usually fill it before I leave the dock. Yup I have forgotten to fill it but I usually have enough fresh drinking water along on a trip that I can rob Peter to pay Paul and fill the lure container from my drinking water containers.
So the next time you see Bill around here or out on the water be sure to thank him for this GREAT tip!
