New artificial reefs were recently deployed in the Gulf Of Mexico waters off of Panama City Beach in Bay County. Its a great thing for the fishery, fisherman and divers. Those of you at Hibiscus By The Bay who fish nearshore and offshore might want to give them a try. 🙂 Actually these artificial reefs are close enough for us smaller boat inshore flats fisherman to reach on a nice day. 😉
The $60,000.00 artificial reefs project funded by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission – Marine Fisheries Artificial Reef Program and is the result of collaboration between Bay County, FWC and the University of Florida Sea Grant.
This artificial reef consist of 40 pre-fabricated concrete structures deployed in 10 locations. The reef is deployed in the Gulf of Mexico out 11 nautical miles on a bearing of approximately 218° from St Andrew Bay Pass at a depth of around 90 feet.
