Keep Your Plastic Fishing Lures in Menhaden Oil
I saw this tip on television one day. It came from a guide who I think was over in the Jacksonville, Florida area. He said he keeps all his plastic lures in menhaden oil. I thought this was a great idea.
Since I am pretty frugal, I thought this idea was good from a money saving perspective as well. I have been using Pro_Cure on my plastic lures and hard baits like top water lures. The Pro-Cure is not cheap and its hard to say how long it stays on.
Right now I can buy a gallon of menhaden oil at Half Hitch Tackle for $22.00. Then I put a little menhaden oil in a plastic zip lock with the plastic baits and a little does go a pretty long way. I don’t know how much the plastic soaks up but they do get a good coating anyways.
I do know the fish bite them!
Now this idea might save me some money that I can put toward something else fishy. 😉
I had considered trying to do this with the Gulp lures because the darn containers are always leaking and they are just plain unhandy to take with ya on the boat. The liquid that is in the Gulp containers is very fluid, unlike the menhaden oil, which is quite a bit thicker. I might try putting the Gulp baits in plastic bags with some menhaden oil and see how that works. I have to say it is hard for me to part with that Gulp liquid since it costs so much. 🙁
Although, I think my wife, Vivian might be grateful to not have the stuff in our condo storage room where I have been stock piling it. 😳
Let me know your thoughts and if you have any tips you’d like to share.
