East Bay Redfish-Red Snapper in the Gulf Of Mexico! Successful fishing trips.
It was the opening weekend of red snapper season and quite a few Hibiscus By The Bay residents went fishing in the Gulf Of Mexico.
One neighbor, Bill Allen went fishing looking for East Bay redfish, with a close friend of his Greg Brudnicki who is also the mayor of Panama City. So you had East Bay redfish-red snapper in the Gulf Of Mexico!
Bill and Greg have been friends and fishing buddies for a long time and they frequently fish East Bay. The day they went out was pretty blustery at times and that particular day had two tides. For an inshore newbie like myself, those two days with two tides are kinda intimidating. I just don’t know where I should be fishing and at what time, so I usually stay home. Not any more! These guys have have inspired me to go out on those double tide days and give the fishing a try. 🙂
Check out these fish they caught that day using soft plastics. Bill said a redish, root beer colored paddle tail jerk bait, about 4 inches long rigged weedless was doing the trick.
Capt. Don White Cotton, a Hibiscus By The Bay owner/resident headed to the Gulf Of Mexico and had a very successful trip. He was kind enough to provide the following fishing report:
Fish were taken 40 miles out. 5 people on board. Bait was frozen squid, conditions were lite swell, clear, approximately 1:30 pm. Gear used Shimano jigging rod and Toro reel. #9 circle hook best for deeper water. Weight was 8 oz. Great job Dennis Brown, a Hibiscus owner and neighbor caught a 27 lb red snapper! Total catch, 12 red snapper, 1 black snapper, 4 scamp grouper, and 1 red grouper. We also caught and released 4 sharks. 🙂
Check out some photos of their catch!
Our neighbor Larry Mixon went out on the Gulf Of Mexico with some friends for red snapper and caught this puney red snapper! You’re going to need a bigger grill Larry!
