One day earlier this year my neighbor and boater Bill Demo asked me if I thought the boaters in the Hibiscus by The Bay community would be interested in getting their boats check out by the local Coast Guard Auxiliary. It is called a Vessel Safety Check.
Bill organized the Coast Auxiliary Vessel Safety Check (VSC) with the local USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 19.
Approximately 12 Hibiscus boats participated. The VSC is a complimentary, free service provided by the USCG Auxiliary and with a successful inspection you will receive a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Decal for display on your boat.
The VSC is an opportunity to find out where you and your boat is at w/ regard to current USCG minimum safety requirements.
Thank you to Bill for organizing the VSC, and volunteer Dean Resch from the USCG Auxiliary for doing the check. Several boat owners stepped up and made themselves available so that Hibiscus boat owners who were not here could get a VSC for their boat(s) as well. Those were kind gestures and in the spirit of being a good neighbor.http://cgaux.org/vsc/
The Vessel Safety Check may become an annual event at Hibiscus By The Bay. That would be a good thing for the boating community here!
Have a GREAT day on the water!
