Boating and Fishing Knots To Know For Boaters and Fisherman
I have learned some useful boating and fishing knots I thought some of my Hibiscus By The Bay neighbors might find useful. So why knot share them with you! 😉 There are of many more knots and hitches out there. These just happen to be my favorites because most of them are easy to learn and most importantly easy to remember. 😉
The Pile Hitch can be used when mooring up to a post or pylon where you have access to the top of the post or pylon. It very easy to tie and more importantly to remember. 🙂
You can use the Clove Hitch to tie or moor up to a post or pylon where you don’t have access to the top of the post or pylon.
I see a lot of messy looking cleats where folks have tried to tie up to a cleat. Here’s the correct way to tie off to a cleat on your boat when mooring at a dock. Its important to pay attention to direction of load.
Round Turn and Two Half Hitches
This is a very useful and easy knot to tie. It can be sued on railings, plies/pylons and my first use was a slightly modified version to tie livestock to a hitch rail, for example.
You can find many more knots at Animated Knots.
Canoeman Loop Knot
I have tried a couple of different loop knots and I like this one the best. I have so much confidence in this knot its pretty much the only knot I tie when securing a lure or jig to my line. It’s easy to tie in any weather condition and I have never had it come loose. Thank you Capt. Chris Meyers for the nice video!
Crazy Alberto Knot
When joining braid to fluorocarbon or mono leaders, prior to learning this knot I was tying the steadfast double uni knot or uni to uni knot. I prefer this knot for its simplicity and its ease of tying. Pay attention and make sure you go back through the loop the way you came up through the loop as Alberto points out. I add one more thing in that prior to snipping the tag end of the braid, I take one or two half-hitches around the braid standing line, pull them tight, then trim it. You can see a diagram of how to tie the the Crazy Alberto Knot.
Do you have some favorite easy to tie and remember knots you’d like to share here? why knot let us know! 😉 We’ll be happy to post them here for ya!
Thanks and have a HAPPY day!
