Vivian and Mike Foate’s Charitable Giving. Organizations We Contribute To and Work With.
As a happily married couple we try to be good people with good hearts. We encourage you to participate in any way you can to lend a helping hand to another who may be less fortunate.
Following are some of the charitable organizations in the local Panama City, Panama City Beach area and some world wide non-profit organizations that we contribute to and work with. For us this is definately a work in progress! We hope to add more and be able to give more in the future!
The GOOD life on the water. Live happy! 🙂
Happy trails and happy giving, Vivian and Capt. Mike Foate
One of our favorite organizations is Kiva.org.
Kiva lets you loan to the working poor!
We have been giving via Kiva since 2007 and this has got to be one of the GREATEST ideas yet for charitable donations! For as little as $25.00 YOU can have a MAJOR impact on someones life! Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world. By choosing a loan on Kiva, you can “sponsor a business person” and help the world’s working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the entrepreneur you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back! You can then turn around and make another loan or cash out and get your money back. To see how Kiva works go here.
What others are saying about www.Kiva.org:
‘Revolutionising how donors and lenders in the US are connecting with small entrepreneurs in developing countries.’
‘If you’ve got 25 bucks, a PC and a PayPal account, you’ve now got the wherewithal to be an international financier.’
— CNN Money
‘Smaller investors can make loans of as little as $25 to specific individual entrepreneurs through a service launched last fall by Kiva.org.’
— The Wall Street Journal
‘An inexpensive feel-good investment opportunity…All loaned funds go directly to the applicants, and most loans are repaid in full.’
— Entrepreneur Magazine

We like this organization specifically because it helps troops that are currently deployed. essentially troops send Operation Troop Appreciation a “wishlist” of items they need or would like that might make their current situation under deployment more tolerable and when received contributes in a positive way to their morale.
In April of 2013, Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) provided wishlist items to 7 separate units totaling 402 deployed troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq representing the Army, Marines & Navy. These units are comprised of Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve components of the United States Military. Many of these units are serving in very remote and dangerous locations in Afghanistan.
Because of your generous support, we were able to supply these troops with wishlist items, including:
- • Under Armour T-Shirts
- • Hygiene Items
- • Snacks
- • Bedding
- • DVDs
- • Gym equipment
- • Nutritional Supplements
- • Morale Boosting Items

Operation Troop Appreciation
To build and sustain the morale of deployed troops, enabling them to complete their missions with the assurance that the American public supports and appreciates their selfless service and daily sacrifices.
Operation Troop Appreciation is dedicated to members of our Armed Forces serving and sacrificing for our country. By providing them with “wish list” items that contribute to their morale, we present a united front to our deployed military by supporting them as individuals, for every one of them
- Memorializes our nation’s past
- Sacrifices to maintain our nation’s culture and freedoms
- Ensures the safety and freedom of our nation’s future generations
Kristen Holloway, founder and President of Operation Troop Appreciation, embarked on a personal project in March 2004 to provide Under Armour® t-shirts to a local Pennsylvania National Guard platoon (1/107 FA, Alpha Company 759 MP) of 38 soldiers deployed in Iraq.
An overwhelmingly positive response from the soldiers, those who helped with the project and from family and friends proved to be the spark that gave birth to Operation Troop Appreciation. It only took a few months to grow this one simple project into a national organization; and on July 1, 2004, Operation Troop Appreciation was established as a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation, with federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
Since that time, hundreds of thousands of soldiers have received “wish-list” items from Operation Troop Appreciation. The generosity of private individuals, small business partnerships, and corporate sponsors have enabled Operation Troop Appreciation to present a united front of appreciation to our deployed American heroes.
